The fire it calls to us,
the explosions rock the very foundations
of our world, and we ooh and aah
while looking up at these green and red
firefly patterns.

We celebrate, the creation
of One Nation Under God.
Indivisible, With Liberty, and Justice For All
, and
corporate irresponsibility, anti-sentimentality
pills-solve-all-problems, and the quicker food is
the better it is ideology.

July 4th, the celebration of
a Fast Food Nation. The grand ole USA,
God I miss it. The beauty of open
farmland replaced by condominium homes
the mom and pop replaced by national chain store
#567723.

We gave up the truth and the reason,
for the money and greed.
And in the end, we've only created a nation,
that thinks about the ooh and the aah,
on the 4th.

It would be, in my estimation,
the time to return to the roots of the beauty
of the day called Independence. Give up
your vicious wants and cravings
just to celebrate, in solomn grandeur,
the Power of the Sacrifice
of all those peoplethat it took
to get us where we are now.

We are Americans. We are blessed.
We sure do repay the favor, don't we?

You will know who this is by the comment.
I just came from a week in NYC. I took someone to the Statue of Liberty, then to ground zero. I didn't realize the irony of the order of the visit until I went to stand before ground zero. The ferry captain talked of the Statue of Liberty as so much more than a mere gift, and how it has grown to be more to Americans., and he was right... a symbol of liberty, freedom, and what American stands for. And then I stood before ground zero, where over 3000 people died, and 3000 people from my company worked in those very towers, and how I was in those towers myself before 911. The sight took me speechless , as it it did all the other Americans who stood with me, young and old, man and woman, with silent tears rolling down our faces. The very thing that the Statue of Liberty stands for, the generosity of our people, the trust we put in mankind from all lands, and the welcome we give one and all, is the very thing that allowed 911 to happen. I hope we survive our generosity.

No doubt we will, as long as we have the will to do it.
