Polarized. That's the environment here in the ol' US of A. Democrats are bitter. Republicans are haughty. People's intolerancies are heightened. The government is a continual broken record on terror, freedom, and democracy. Meanwhile, while Americans stand around and bicker, China has recently surpassed the USA in amounts of meat, corn, wheat, steel, and oil consumed. Translation: The USA isn’t Numero Uno anymore.
The greatest thing is that nothing is fixed up. No-one is trying to fix anything, heal any of the wounds. All we do is make the rifts bigger by attacking the reasons we became polarized in the first place. When both major parties work together to creating lasting legislation, that’s when things do well. I also think that a two party system is suffocating the political choice of the American people. Libertarians, Constitutionalists, and Greens should have an equal chance to express their opinions and viewpoints and have a better chance to get votes. We need to find out how many people want change in the status quo, and try to make things better for everyone.
Americans need to realize that as a country, we’re slipping. I’ll quote the Good Book here by saying this, “Dislodge the log from one’s own eye before taking the speck out of your neighbors.” As Americans, we need to hold on to our core beliefs. We also need to realize that we’ve got problems at home that need dealt with, like school reform, and Social Security. Factory jobs are less abundant because a foolish American youth think that they are better than manufacturing jobs, and demand too much money for unskilled labor. We need to work on inviting the EU and other nations of the United Nations help rebuild Iraq. Thousands of Iraqis every day are without running water or electricity. Women are becoming more and more oppressed in a society that once let them live independent lives without being shot down in the streets. In unison, we can heal these scars and work toward a greater goal of peace and prosperity.
To be honest, I think we need to step back from this masterwork that we’re painting, and see if we need to change our palette a little bit. Until then, we’ll always be Un-United.

Great Article!!!!

We need to find out how many people want change in the status quo, and try to make things better for everyone.

I think this line sums it up pretty well. To me the reason there is such a rift between us all is that a change of status quo IS happening. I'm no expert, but I would bet that sharp divisions between us usually occured just before each major change in our nation's cultural history.

To tell the truth, while the disunity does frustrate me at times, it really doesn't bother me that much. I have been in a few areas of the world where there is no open devisiveness between people because they are afraid to express their opinions. A lot of Americans cry "totalitarian" or "police state" because their lives were inconvenienced for speaking out. I have seen people literally afraid for their lives if they do so.

I would take bickering and name calling over living in constant fear EVERYTIME!!

We need to work on inviting the EU and other nations of the United Nations help rebuild Iraq.

I agree in principle but th UN has proven time and time again that it is incapable of meeting this challenge. They have to pull their load of real work (troops, money, and materiel) at some point with a degree of acumen before any of this would be plausible. Cutting and running won't hack it in Iraq or anywhere for that matter. Your article gets the Insightful for it's ideals though.

I posted a reply earlier, but apparently it was lost in the dark matter of cyberspace.

We need to find out how many people want change in the status quo, and try to make things better for everyone.

This (to me) is the crux of your article. There are major changes to the status quo going on in our society. I may be wrong, but I think if we went back through our history, I would bet that a major amount of divisiveness preceded every change of status quo.

The last major change would have been the 60s, and look at the bitterness of the divide. The one before that would have been the industrial revolution. Again, great gulfs among the masses.

To tell you the truth, while the bickering and arguing is frustrating, I prefer it to places I've been where there is none (mostly because the people are scared to death (literally) to speak their minds). If freedom means we sometimes find it hard to get along... So be it!!!

I understand the bickering and fighting, but I wish people could work together as well. It seems like no one can come together for the greater good because they're too busy attacking each other.

Thanks for the insightful!

I agree that there are some big problems with the UN, but, I believe that is in the best intrests of America to co-operate with other nations.

Great article. Paying attention in social studies, I see.

I know I'm a lot more edgy about everyday topics because of the partisanship and politics that underscore them. Unfortunately, in my case and possibly others, I've lost faith in relying on other people. This doesn't exactly work on the national scene, nor is it true for everyone I'm around, but I have trouble finding sincerity anymore. Democrats and Republicans alike, just like Beebes said, are spending too much time dividing and working toward their self-righteous goals rather than working toward a common goal.

To paraphrase someone I find very intelligent, history does repeat itself and don't fool yourself into thinking it doesn't.

Who wants to see my impression of a right winger?

That's garbage, you have no proof that everything isn't sunny and fantastic in Iraq, the people there are having a non stop party. Your rational thinking is out of control and you should be tried for treason. I want to nuke you, screw it, let's nuke everyone!

Your article is extremely well thought out and written, if only more people bothered to see what was really going on rather than accepting what they're told without question, the world would be a better place. Sorry for dividing further with my sarcasm, just trying to undo the reputation that left wingers seem to be gathering in America of being spineless.

IF people did that, then maybe there wouldn't be religious fanatics.... well, as many of them, anyway.

Thanks for your reply!

Nope. I never pay attention in Social Studies. That man thoroughly dislikes me from the pit of his soul. I think he marks questions wrong on my worksheets just so I won't get a lot of 100%s.

Democrats and Republicans alike, just like Beebes said, are spending too much time dividing and working toward their self-righteous goals rather than working toward a common goal

If we could co-operate, we could accomplish so much more,

If you're unwilling to compromise, people will call you obstinate.

If you attempt to compromise, people will call you spineless.

Personally, I say screw them! Call me spineless if you must, compromise is a great thing if everyone is willing to give a little.

Great article, by the way. Have an insightful on me.

Thanks for the insightful!

If spineless is the only thing I'd have to be called to get some compromise, I'd jump on that like a rat on a cheese puff.
