Sometimes, getting through the first few sentences of a new article for my blog is the hardest part of writing. Sometimes I can’t think of something to write, so I come up with a fancy title that might catch someone’s eye and make them come read it, because I can honestly say that when I go to a blog because of the title, even if the blog is something I’m uninterested in, I feel obliged to read it because they sucked me in, and I deserve it. But this isn’t one of those times.
I just got finished watching the first five episodes of an anime called RahXephon. I bought the new DVD for 9.00 dollars on ebay because I heard that it was one of 2003's best animes. When I saw the giant robot on the front of the package, I thought about war, fighting, the usual. That’s usually, USUALLY, what giant robot animes entail. Not so for this little gemstone. Instead of getting nonstop killing and violence, I received an interesting, thought provoking tale that seemed to make you want to think than cheer when something dies. It’s strange, bloody, violent, beautiful and magnificent all at the same time. At the end of each episode a voice would say “Life, resonate with sound.” Life resonate with sound. Like a command, a telling almost, and at the same time a plea and a cry out “Life, resonate with sound!” And the more I think about this strange command and plea, the more it makes sense.
Life does resonate with sound. Look at the way our society works. Why is music such a large part of our everyday lives? What happens at work if you mishear your boss? Why do we put so much emphasis in spoken language? Life resonates with sound. The bus stop. The microwave. The park, the office building, the multiplex, the parking lot, everywhere, everything resonates with sound. But what sound is it?
Is life a lie? Are the sounds we hear, are they sounds of truth? So often I think that everything might just have a strange twist, a white lie, a black little something swept into the corner. I hear things that aren’t really real, and I mishear my parents, my siblings, my teachers, my friends. How can you not know what I’m talking about when this type of problem has recently occurred on our beloved JU?
Does life resonate with the sounds of truth? If not, then let it.
Peace,
Beebes
