Our country passes its independence day. Everyone thinks about the fireworks, the picnics, the parties and a good time. Some stumble across the idea that the founding fathers of this country gave us the freedoms to do and say what we want, and that we should be thankful that we are free.
The problem is, people aren’t free in the sense that they have freedom. In these times, people are only free to choose their masters. People aren’t free anymore.
Why are people not free? Look at yourselves. Look at the people who pass you on the street. They aren’t free. We aren’t free. Each of us has a vice. Each of us has a bad habit. None are perfect, all make mistakes. Some are slaves to those habits and vices. Are you a slave?
Look at yourself. Do you smoke? Are you addicted to a drug? Are you alcoholic? You are a slave.
Look at yourself. Is money the only priority? Is life worthless? Do you cut yourself? Are you anorexic? You are a slave.
You who are weary, come. You who are scared, come. You who live, come. You who die, come. Come, come and be free.
Our freedom is given by a government for the people, by the people, and of the people. You can make yourself free. With the freedom that you yourself have created, you can throw off the chains of slavery. And some day, maybe you’ll say, “I need help to throw off these chains.” And others will be there to pick you up. That’s why freedom is so great.
Because as Americans, we are not free, but we are free together.
Peace,
Beebes
