People say "Never Forget"
like it's some kind of statement of emotion
they tell you to never forget
what happened to these aging men and women
the last of a brilliant race of stars
How ironic.

Let me tell you sir, I can never forget
never forget my grandfather
who fought that fight, went deaf for that cause

I lost him only months after I lost her
and by that time, he couldn't remember
my name, his name, the way to build a cabinet
(he was a carpenter)
he couldn't remember that fight
But I remember him,

He was beautiful, I think;
a star that found its Maker
found his way
he at least had his children around him
had people that loved him.

I think, and tears form
as I wonder
how many brilliant stars get lost
in homes where no-one
visits
and no-one remembers
their names.
