My Initial Impression of "Lost in Translation"

So, this weekend I went to Blockbuster and bought myself two DVDs for $20, which is nice enough for my income. Most of the movies are ones that people didn't like, or movies that really didn't get enough attention from customers. So, when I picked up School of Rock and Lost in Translation, I wasn't so sure about what I was going to get from them.

School of Rock is an excellent comedy, which I personally enjoyed. I was anxious about Lost in Translation because I wasn't so sure what to expect. I thought it was supposed to be a kind of comedy, considering the type of setting, but I wasn't sure.

The movie Lost in Translation, for anyone who didn't see previews or people who have never heard about it, is basically summed up in a few short sentences. Bob Harris (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) are two Americans who meet each other in Tokyo. Because they can not sleep, the pair runs around Tokyo for a week, and each of them learns more about themselves, and they become fast friends in the midst of downtown Tokyo chaos.

This movie has a lot of humor, but the majority of it is hidden in little things you almost have to be looking for to see. The movie shows Tokyo in a light that most people don't see, like the one room video casinos, large arcades, temples, shrines, and bustling city streets. The movie is definitely interesting.

Personal Opinion: If you would like to think a little bit, or would just like a different sort of movie watching experience, Lost in Translation is for you. At some points, it gets a little dull, but nothing too extreme. This movie is supposed to make you think, no doubt about that. If you don't care to do that, I might suggest something like Van Helsing or School of Rock.

I really enjoyed Lost in Translation. I tend to really like the subtle, patient movies over the loud, boisterous action blockbusters. How the relationship that was developed between Bob and Charlotte was well done. I really felt they had something deeper than just a friendly relationship.

I think you would have liked it better on the big screen. It was one of those movies that seems sort of slow seen at home but was pretty neat at the theater. The lights and action seemed to be a lot quicker with much less down time. Good review though. I thought Murray did a good job but wouldn't have voted for him for Best Actor.

I saw it at home about a week ago, and I found myself pausing it every thirty minutes or so to go do something else. I enjoyed it, but it made me restless.

It was definitely a different kind of movie. I enjoyed it, Bill Murray did a really great job. Other than that, it was really bizarre for me. I think that's all I have to say really, it was bizarre.

At the end of it my hubby looked at me and said, "WTF?" And I was left feeling like...that was it? There seemed to be so many scenes that were building tension for some reason, then nothing... Oh, well.

I enjoyed it, but it made me restless.

My thought exactly. Very intriiquing movie but in reality the sense of lonliness seemed unwarranted and unduly devised.
